The man, who is isolating at a council accommodation complex in Napier, was in the city for six days before officials realised he was there.

Since the case was announced on Saturday evening, there has not been a noticeable rise in testing compared to last week. Numbers have been fluctuating from around 100 to more than 400 in the last week and a half.

After a busy day on Sunday with more than 900 people getting vaccinations, numbers dropped to 579 on Monday.

A Hawke’s Bay DHB spokesperson said anyone with Covid-19 symptoms, no matter how mild, should be tested even if they were vaccinated.

“People are also reminded to follow the alert level 2 rules of wearing a face mask, practising physical distancing and keeping track of their movements using the Covid tracer app or a manual diary.

The DHB also urges people to get vaccinated, with many sites available across the region
