In a statement, the Health Ministry said the 35 new community cases are in Auckland (18), Waikato (1), Bay of Plenty (13), Rotorua (2) and Taupō (1).

The Ministry said a Rotorua based MIQ worker who tested positive on Wednesday is currently in isolation. It is currently investigating to find out if this infection came from either the community or the facility, but said the nature of the case’s work meant they did not normally have direct contact with returnees.

The worker is fully vaccinated and up-to-date with regular testing. Further genome testing results are due later today.

There are now 37 people with the coronavirus in hospital, including three in intensive care.

There have now been 176 Covid-19 cases in MIQ so far in 2022.

Today’s cases at the border arrived in New Zealand from the UK, Qatar, Pakistan, UAE, USA, Australia, Fiji, Singapore, India and Spain.

At the Ministry’s last update yesterday, there were 19 new community cases and 43 new cases of the virus in MIQ.

There have been 11,057 cases in the current outbreak and a total of 14,150 confirmed cases of Covid-19 in New Zealand since the pandemic began.

There have been 43,219 booster doses, given yesterday – 1378 first doses, 4081 second doses, 875 third primary doses and 43,219 booster doses.
