Live Covid-19 updates for 11 November – all the latest on the Delta outbreak

Deputy Prime Minister Grant Robertson says advice from public health officials backs the move to reopen Auckland primary schools next week.

Students at primary schools and kura in Auckland and the area of Waikato in level 3 return to class on Wednesday.

Robertson told First Up advice from health officials was as long as schools had adequate ventilation, and children from year 4 and up were masked, it was safe for classrooms to open their doors again.

Meanwhile, staff in MIQ hotels are being told not to walk alone – and getting security escorts to visit certain guests – because of an increased risk of violence.

A health and safety report noted the MIQ hotels were housing a higher rate of people with substance dependence and other social issues.
