A resident said he saw a man come out of a house on Bezar Place near Ormiston, with his hands on his head.

The man was handcuffed and taken away after 8am.

He said he heard what sounded like a gunshot around 3am and the Armed Offenders Squad arrived a short time later.

He saw police climb into the top of the house and remove three women and a child, who were then taken away.

Several police negotiators had been talking to a person inside the house.

They were preparing to use tear gas earlier in the morning before the man was arrested.

A scene guard remains in the area.

In a statement, police confirmed that the incident had been resolved and they would provide further information later today.

During the incident the street was cordoned off.

Fire and Emergency meanwhile say they attended an incident in Flat Bush at 1am today.
