Today is the last chance to make submissions on the government’s climate emissions discussion document, which has new ideas to slash greenhouse gas emissions.
It will be fed into the comprehensive Emissions Reduction Plan out in May next year. That plan sets the path for the country to be carbon neutral by 2050.
The government admitted last month current and proposed changes will not come close to hitting initial reduction targets. It has requested ideas from businesses and the community.
It says everyone will be affected in some way by changes in the final emissions reduction plan.
The consultation document focusses heavily on transport – increasing electric car numbers and expanding public transport.
There are no new plans for reductions from agriculture in the paper, which has outraged environmentalists.
